Fresh Start - Reality TV

I am under the weather (aka bad cold), but through it all and easy access to my laptop, I am going to make my Friday evening entry. It fascinates me how through reality television they pretend to tackle the ever growing obesity problem in America.

Reality television is at a all time high, anything and everyone has turned up. What has been surprising to me lately is how many weight loss shows have surface. OMG! You have the biggest loser contestants sign on to endure unbearable task with the end result of a quick weight loss and if your lucky lots of cash. So rapidly weight loss wins the money until you have to go home.  They live on a ranch and the overseers are specialist, doctors and trainers watching their every move what they eat, drink and how often they work out and sleep. Don't get me wrong I love the show and will continue to watch, but I have to question their motto's at times, because they are setting the constantants up to fail. Confining them to a ranch is not realistic because with house monitors you will be less likely to cheat. Call me a fair weather fan, because biggest loser is my show even though I have my doubts on their methods of weight loss.

How about One Big Happy Family are they really happy well it appears that they are on the surface but deep down when the cameras are not rolling are they really happy being morbidly obese. I guess if your getting paid to lose weight its not that hard to pretend to be happy. Then you have Too Fat for 15: Fighting Back  please don't degrade the children putting them on television with the hopes that open exposure will force them to lose weight. It is a life long battle, you can gain weight overnight but it takes forever to lose one pound. Reflecting back on a episode on Brook haven Weight Loss Clinic very realistic episode patients were sneaking food into to the very hospital they entered to get help for their obesity. What made it realistic but not right was the sneaking of the food. There will always come a time when that cake, ice cream or chips, will call out your name and every now and then, you will give into  the temptation and to be perfectly honest you are suppose to it will keep the urges down.

A food addict can't be made to recover, recovery comes when the heart and mind are on one accord.  There are many more, Fit Nation, National Body Challenge, X - Weighted, Ultimate Goals, The Truth about Food,  and Body Challenge Slim down. Last but not least, Dance your Ass Off , another show different twist you dance the weight off, but you still compete with other participants just like on the biggest loser if you do not lose the most weight you are sent packing. Which is intimidating and forces the person to lose weight or lose their mind losing the weight just to stay for another week. That is just to much pressure.

These shows sends a hell of a message to America that as long as you work out five days a week and eat least then 1500 calories a day you got it made and the weight will stay off.  Not so fast because obese people such as myself are ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Losing weight alone is a task and to have the pressure of reality television can make it harder. Obesity is a growing epidemic, and if television is our source of knowledge for healthy weight loss than I challenge America and all the networks to put the truth on the line the struggles and the attack on fat. I guess if they did it would no longer be Reality TV.

My inspiration! I was 189lbs in this picture
